THE NORTH FIELD
A13
Barnett Shale was deposited over a large part of North-Central Texas during the late Mississippian age, around 350 million years ago. Although pretty thin in Montague county, this layer still provides for strong gas production in an area that is thermally mature, and enclosed by dense limestone able to contain induced fractures (fracking).
The most actively drilled area is the Newark East Field, which is currently the largest gas field in Texas.
