The Beastie Boys, Mike D (Michael Diamond), MCA (Adam Yauch), and Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz), started as a hardcore punk band in New York City before pivoting to hip-hop. They became pioneers of rap-rock, blending genres long before that was fashionable.
